Medical Scientist

I worked as Medical Scientist for the international project “Zika in Infants and Pregnancy (ZIP)” performing molecular biology assays to detect RNA Arboviruses (multiplex RT-qPCR for Zika, Chikungunya and Dengue) using automatized equipment (BD MAXTM) and regular qPCR equipment (7500 Fast Real-Time PCR System).Achievements:• Successfully analysed more than 10.000 different specimens and contributed to further elucidation regarding RNA Arboviruses infection and adverse maternal/fetal outcomes.

Research Assistant

As a Research Assistant, I worked in the project "Doenças Genéticas Raras" (Rare Genetic Diseases) diagnosing genetic syndromes using a variety of molecular biology techniques (PCR, qPCR, and High- Resolution Melting analysis) and developing new diagnostic methodologies for genetic disorders.Achievements:• Implemented a dried blood spot methodology for a massive newborn screening to diagnose two rare genetic disorders, Nature Scientific Reports (Ferreira et al., 2020);• Scientific review of the genotype-phenotype relationship in a genetic disorder, Frontiers in Endocrinology (Costa et al., 2019);• Implemented a High-Resolution Melting (MS-HRM) methodology to diagnose two rare genetic disorders, Molecular Genetics & Genomic Medicine (Ribeiro Ferreira et al., 2019);• Book chapter, Genética: Molecular, humana e médica (Genetics: Molecular, Human and Medical) (Ferreira et al., 2021);• Presented the new diagnostic approach using MS- HRM at the XXII International Congress of Genetics.
