As QC Technician I am validating the cleaning processes of the production lines at Aldo-Union; as well as, I help with normal analysis at QC department by HPLC and UPLC, while supervising 2 analysts. Aldo-Union is pharmaceutical company based in the surrounding of Barcelona with 60 years of experience producing aerosols for the respiratory system diseases like asthma, among many other products like tablets, syrups, creams and foams.The validation of the cleaning processes (CIP and manual) implies :- Writing protocols (SOP's, risks analysis, MACO calculations)- Adapting and validating analytical methods for HPLC and UPLC systems (Empower 3.0)- Taking samples (rinsing, swabing, microbiological), analyzing them by HPLC and UPLC systems- Reporting the results and suggesting corrective actions (CAPAS's)Moreover, as a QC Technician I am supervising two analysts in their analysis by HPLC and UPLC; including related substances (impurities), stability analysis, NGI, particle diameter, physico-chemical analysis, and all the documentation related with these. I manage desviations from these analysis (OOS) and suggest corrective actions (CAPA's), while I perform statistical analysis of the results in order to maintain and optimal quality level of the products.Finally, I carried out the verification and validation of the HPLC and UPLC systems and scales used at QC Department and I help in the management of the chemicals and consumable material.

I developed the initial steps of R&D projects for biotechnological and chemical companies in the Barcelona area, Spain, Contract Research.I generated biotechnological alternatives, new bioprocesses, to chemical reactions in order to produce (new) chemicals. Moreover, I offered tailored consulting on biotransformations and fermentations using cells and enzymes, in bioreactor. I developed and adapted analitical methods (HPLC and GC) for the determination of these new products as well as their structural determination (NMR, FT-IR, MALDI-TOF, Mass Spectrometry).Finally, I also carried out microbiological controls and MICs determinations of (new) compounds or pharmaceutical forms.

As a PhD-Student in biotechnology (bioprocessing and biotransformations) my experimental work was focused on upstream and dowstream processes like:- I scalled-up, modelled (kinetics and stoichiometry) and optimized the hydroxy-fatty acid production from oily wastes riched in oleic acid by Pseudomonas aeruginosa 42A2 in a lab-scale bioreactor (cell culture).- I optimized the culture media using DoE techniques (design of experiments)- I designed a new non-dispersive aeration system in order to improve the oxygen solubility in culture media and reducing foaming.- I syntheized new compounds using enzymes: I developed the production of estolides from trans-hydroxy-fatty acids in non-conventional reaction media (organic solvents and solvent-free media), media without water.- I immobilized enzymes using diferent techniques.- I developed analytical methods (HPLC and GC) for new biomolecules.- I developed purification methods for new biomolecules and recombinant proteins.- I used structural determination techniques: NMR, MALDI-TOF-MS, FT-IR, and MS.- I preserved microorganisms by lyophilization and cryopreservation.- I was carried out microbiological tests: Bioburden, Challenge test, MIC's, ELISA.- I work as a Professor at the University of Barcelona teaching microbiology.

I realized an intership at the Bio-Oils Research Unit under the supervision of Dr. Terry A. Isbell in the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Peoria, Illinois. During that time:- I developed the enzymatic synthesis of estolides, lubricant and biodegradable polyesteres, using hydroxy-fatty acids as substrates in non-conventional reaction media with enzymes.- I catalytically hydrogenated unsaturated substrates with a high-pressure reactor.- I analyzed estolides by HPLC.- I used IR, NMR and MALDI-TOF-MS for the structural determination of estolides.
