Better Neighbourhoods Work is a new consultancy, based in Birmingham, that builds on 30 year experience and skill set of its Director, Ifor Jones in neighbourhood management, community governance and strategic management of a range of community and housing services.A key theme that has underpinned Ifor's career has been shaping locality based solutions from early experiences of decentalisation in Tower Hamlets, neighbourhood housing management in Southwark, managing consultative forums in Brent, area working in Dacorum and the strategic lead for localisation and devolution in Birmingham for 11 years. Key achievements include:* Developing a civil approach to tackling racial harassment in Southwark, shaping a multi agency approach to tackling a major problem centered on drug dealing off the Old Kent Road in Southwark, improving the quality and assessment of Southwarks housing strategy;* Taking forward Brent's approach to consultation and improving their area consultative forums, service user consultation and market research approach;* Shaping a voluntary sector compact and new approach to voluntary sector commissioning in Dacorum and implementing area working pilots together with a review of the potential emparishment of Hemel Hempstead;* In Birmingham, leading the community economic regeneration of Longbridge to mass redundancies following the demise of MG Rover; development lead for the Northfield Community Based Housing Organization,strategic management of libraries, advice, community development and community safety; strategic lead for localisation and devolution policy and lead officer for the conduct of the Community Governance Review in Sutton Coldfield leading to the institutionalisation of the UK's largest town council Ifor is currently working on a review of community engagement for the Pioneer Group based in Castle Vale, Birmingham and will be advising on a sustainable model of engaging communities in this iconic neighbourhood in Birmingham.
