• Design and Fabrication of highly sensitive Metal-Insulator-Metal (MIM) diodes for energy harvesting and infrared (IR) detection application.• Development of a low-cost novel process to deposit pinhole free, smooth, ultra-thin (~3 nm) films using Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method on different substrate in ambient air.• Synthesized inorganic oxides (ZnO, NiO) form organic precursors and employed it as an Insulator in MIM diodes.• Characterization of ultra-thin layers using different characterization tool.• Explored the compatibility of conventional photolithography process with LB method by fabricating sub-micron diodes.• Measured DC and RF characteristics of MIM diodes and achieved high sensitivity (~36 A/W) as an IR detector.• Model and simulation of MIM diode as an Infrared Detector at THz frequency to find the detectivity of MIM diode at 30 THz.
