During my time with ANJEC I received first-hand experience with the inner workings of local politics and environmental lobbying by interacting with local environmental commission leaders and politicians. During the summer of 2014 I spent roughly 3 months working as the Stewardship Intern for the Land Conservancy of New Jersey, located in the town of Boonton. My primary duty was to assist the field supervisor Dennis Briede in a variety of reforestation and restoration projects throughout the properties owned by the Land Conservancy. Alongside this, my duties included working with corporate volunteers through the Conservancy’s Partners for Parks program, and to continually work on maintaining the Conservancy’s community garden, as well as to assist another intern in collecting species and health data for trees planted in the town of Montville by the town’s municipality.
