I have worked with Mr. Ian Trow for over 10 years. At that time he is responsible for global customer service and support for Siemens Standard Drives. As a fast developing country, China is one of the most important business country for Siemens SD worldwide. Mr. Ian Trow supported China to build up the professional service and support system, starting from customer / competitor research, overall strategy, process, platform, local competence development etc. Meanwhile, he gave us lots of coach and training ... So for me, he is the leader which stands for the best on strategy thinking, customer orientation, people management etc.

As a customer of Siemens UK, I was the Technical Director of an industrial sector systems-integration company. With our customer we had developed an advanced three dimensional coordinate positioning system for the theatrical and stageshow sector – for example rock concerts. The interaction between the automation products, the system control, and the positional algorithms were both complex and safety critical as we were literally flying performers around arenas at high speed on wiring harnesses. We had encountered a major technical problem and there was a real possibility of a huge disruption to the start of a nationwide tour, consequential damages both reputational and financially were a real possibility. We had exhausted our normal lines of support and escalation and the situation was absolutely critical for us. At this point our case was escalated to Ian in his position as Head of Global Service and Customer Support at Siemens. What happened then was a sea change in approach to our case. Not only did Ian personally engage with us to understand the history and precarious situation, he was then able to cut through the fog and stagnation that sometimes engulfs large companies. Within hours Ian had put together a task team consisting of development, technical-support, and field-service experts from both Germany and England. What impressed us was that Ian not only made the organisation react and move 24/7, but he did so in a structured way by the use of FMEA and well communicated and intense project planning. Needless to say that the problem was solved and commissioned ahead of time. Not only did Ian and his team go the extra mile, they also saved the day for us.
