Drawing on over 25 years of hospital operational and capital planning experience as a health care executive in some of Canada’s most innovative organizations, I offered clients across Canada and around the world, a unique due diligence service that merges facility design consulting with concurrent implementation of hospital operational leading best practices to ensure clients do not simply put “an old organization into a new building”. Also responsible for all new business development for the firm. Unique consulting services include facilitating pre-design workshops to help clients translate organizational Vision and Values into design by employing scenario planning, best practices facilitated dialogue, “Value-Based Leadership” applications, Evidence Based Design, LEAN Process Review, and the application of patient-centered care into design. On new capital projects, I led Master Planning workshops and design charrettes, facilitate user group discussions and offered key strategic advice to clients on how to avoid risk and plan for maximum future flexibility, adaptability and operational efficiency. Ontario Hospital Clients: Guelph General Hospital, Guelph Ontario, The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Toronto, Ontario, Trilllium Partners, (Credit Valley, Mississauga and The Queensway Hospital) Mississauga, Ontario, York Central Hospital, (Now McKenzie Health) Richmond Hill Ontario, Montfort Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario, Bridgepoint Health and St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto Ontario. Led of all capital planning relating to the procurement of Canada’s largest Complex Continuing Care and Rehab hospital (500 bed, $400M project) including direct line responsibility for Food Services, Engineering Services, and Environmental Services. The originally approved hospital master plan redevelopment scope was ultimately replaced by a compelling new business case that I was responsible for developing that demonstrated greater value-for-money through a complete “new-build” procurement approach verses a complex, lengthy, phased renovation strategy. The new master plan was ultimately approved and the project is now complete and occupied having been procured under Infrastructure Ontario’s AFP (Alternative Financing and Procurement) delivery model. (Design Build Finance and Maintain). This successfully planned and delivered project required extensive community engagement strategies including town hall stakeholder forums and liaison with the City of Toronto Panning department and with local municipal and provincial politicians to secure a win-win-win scenario. As a member of the senior management team, I was involved in an organization wide re-branding exercise that sought to change public perceptions about CCC and Rehab patients. As VP Planning, in addition to leading the Project Management team, I was responsible for ensuring effective, efficient and safe support services delivery models in food services, retail planning, engineering services and environmental services.
