  Responsible for the requirement and management of all training within the RAF Medical Services. Key responsibilities were: • Ensuring all medical training is compliant with RAF training policy, medial assurance and governance. • Analysis of medical tasks in order to develop new training (planning and modelling). • On an annual basis determining the cost of externally provided training and ensuring the requirement remained within the allocated budget, whilst ensuring it met the training requirements of our medical professionals. • Determining and scoping the requirement for all internal training (training skills analysis). Key achievement – Reduced the external training requirement and optimised all RAF medical training as part of Programme SOCRATES, this resulted in huge reductions in training time and costs for the organisation and our people.   Responsible for personnel, training, equipment, logistics, and deployment of the field hospital as Defence moved to contingent operations post Afghanistan, we prepared and completed assurance exercises of the field hospital as part of the very high readiness ready to move status. I had to ensure all unit personnel were medically fit, suitably trained and maintained the clinical and non-clinical equipment to deploy at very short notice, to a potential austere environment and for a sustainable and unknown duration.   In Afghanistan I was the second in command of a NATO Training Mission team to mentor the Afghanistan National Army Instructors and recruits through basic training, providing specialist input to their senior officers and overseeing medical development. This environment developed my communication and interpersonal skills, how to deal with complex situations and uncertainty, demonstrate my professional values through my behaviour, and be creative to deliver training to a large number of uneducated population while overcoming language and cultural barriers.I was part of the initial trailblazer team for the NATO task into Thumrait, Afghanistan. As 2IC I had to set up the training team, establish relations with the Afghanistan Army, analyse/design/implement training programmes and provide assurance feedback with recommendations. Show less
