Contributed to the sustainable management 10,800 acres of forest comprising the Yale School forest system. Management is focused on a holistic forestry approach emphasizing sustainable timber harvesting, wetland protection, wildlife conservation and ecosystem services. Duties included road maintenance, sample inventory design and execution, wetland delineation, boundary demarcation, silvicultural analysis and timber marking. These decisions were based upon stand development (basal area, species distribution) and species regeneration models. Mapped harvest areas using GPS and input information into existing ArcMap files. Was responsible for creating user maps and for editing existing files. In preparation for harvest, marked harvestable stand according to silvicultural treatment (thinning or seed tree/shelterwood). Wrote a silvicultural prescription detailing standing and harvestable volume, regeneration method, operator notes, species composition and soil type. Show less

Conducted primary and secondary research for collaboration between Yale University and Honduran NGO (Proyecto Mirador) in order to gain carbon credits for the NGO providing improved wood cook stoves. Conducted household surveys of project beneficiaries in order to determine changes in fuel wood consumption, patterns of fuel wood consumption and the effects of the fuel wood trade on local forests. Also investigated the scale and organization of local markets for fuel wood. Findings were examined using remote sensing and GIS to establish long-term changes on land use in the region. Synthesized data collected, GIS, remote sensing analysis and published research into deliverable for the client. Show less
