Since 1999 I have, concurrently, gained experience in the commercial aviation sector as a licensed commercial and recreational Pilot. I have held various airline flying and software development jobs in parallel to my electronic engineering career. It was through my association with Comair Ltd that I was exposed to the lack of systems software and which prompted me to develop the AvPlan system (ref: Commercial Micro Maintenance). Aviation Achievements: - Attained a private pilot's license in 1991 and an airline transport pilot's license in 1992 - Achieved a Boeing 737 rating and subsequently flying commercially for Comair Ltd - Qualified as a certified Boeing Performance Engineer and attending performance engineering courses at Boeing (Seattle, USA) in 2004 and 2005 - Attained the status of Captain with approximately 15500 hours flying time whilst operating Boeing 737's (B732, B733, B734 and B738) - Awarded national colours for aerobatic flying and represented South Africa at the Advanced World Aerobatics in Slovenia (2002). - Participated in air shows (formation aerobatics) and competitions in United Arab Emirates, Europe, USA and Japan, winning the national aerobatic championships in South Africa in 2008 after which I retired from aerobatic flying.
