There's folk out there that like watching movies and tv shows for free, just cause everything else is for free in the cyber world (seemingly, but not really) but there are also folk out there who work in TV and film, and this sort of thing is crapping on their jobs and their futures, not to mention the creative possibilities of independent film that are being evaporated by this. So that's where I come in, to try and thwart this. I scored a documentary called Our Year for Gridiron TV last year. They are currently in talks to get it shown on a sports channel so none of the music can be uploaded to my site for now. My work included: ▪ Ensuring the building was safe by carrying out daily lighting checks – primary and secondary – battery equipment checks for secondary power, daily security checks (35mm and Digital Cinema Packages), weekly fire drill checks, weekly disability audit checks, monthly extinguisher checks, monthly asbestos checks, health and safety issues such as manual handling, ladder safety, and COSHH were part of my daily routine. ▪ Receiving film prints delivered from the distributor and completing the shipping formalities – this goes for both 35mm film and Digital Cinema Packages ▪ Examining 35mm prints on a workbench to determine the image, sound format and other information needed to screen them correctly – also to check prints for physical damage that could prevent the print from being screened without a breakdown. ▪ "Making up" the reels of a 35mm release print onto a long-play platter system, complete with adverts and trailers which have to be spliced together. ▪ Programming automation systems to perform presentation functions. Cleaning the surfaces in the projector's film path that come into contact with or proximity to the film surface. ▪ "Lacing up" the 35mm film through the projector and film path to and from any long play device. ▪ Carrying out presentation operations manually if an automation system is not in use. ▪ "Taking down" the reels of a 35mm print and supporting programme after the final screening, and spooling them back into 2,000 foot lengths. ▪ Dispatching film prints for return to the distributor or sometimes a "crossover" direct to another theater, and completing the shipping formalities – again, same applies to Digital Cinema Packages.
