I look after our public mapping at http://maps.monmouthshire.gov.uk, our Internal web mapping system Monmaps as well as looking after our Mapinfo based systems I continue to be involved in many projects to improve processes at Monmouthshire using GIS to make data more accurate and accessible. Many departments, especially those without their own back office systems store their data and control their processes using our Oracle Spatial database. As Monmouthshire embraces "Agile Working", more and more departments need to access, update and manipulate their location related information from wherever they may be working. Show less

I spent four summers at Marconi in both New Parks and Blackbird road as a sponsored student, working in all the major departments including personnel, manufacturing, purchasing, sales, marketing , estimating to get an excellent overview of how an organisation works. At the end of my MEng I was employed by the RAR Hebrides project. We designed and installed a secure realtime sun/unix based real time control and safety system for running the firing range, which was spread over 4 islands. I was responsible for accurately time tagging all the data as it came out of the tracking radars, using the then very new GPS system for accurate time. I wrote embedded C on industrial PCs running DOS. I was also responsible for the design and testing of the system to distribute accurate time around the Sun network for track combiners, track formers, displays etc I was also deputy network manager for the SunOs system Show less
