  Under my research mentor, I conducted plant biology sampling and lab analysis. I sampled Joshua Tree leaf, root, and soil to analyze endophytic communities. In order to do so, I isolated bacterial and fungal DNA and performed PCR to provide data on the most common taxon. All of this was done to contribute to the Joshua Tree Genome Project, a project centered around protecting the Joshua Tree.
