Expatriated to Spain to manage all non-direct design activities (cost reduction, PWB design, IT support, design trials, €22m+ budget making and control, salary, performance assessment, working conditions etc), of a team of 210 engineering staff responsible for the development, introduction and control of the Europe TV business (8m units pa). As DIGITALEUROPE technical lobbyist for ErP Lot 5, and UK technical expert IEC MT62087, the environmental role was greatly expanded in a period that proved critical to ecodesign with the introduction of the first pieces of ErP and labelling legislation for TV. Reported to: Vice President, Engineering. Direct reports: 4. Indirect reports: 19. Developed Design-To-Cost (DTC) program delivering €25m pre on-line material cost savings. Continually ensured below budget performance of European design teams. Administrated the outsourcing of TV design to an EMS provider, reducing headcount by 140. Organised the construction of a new office and the successful movement of 90 staff. Accomplished the introduction ErP lot 5 legislation with minimal impact to TV industry. Expedited the design of Sony TVs ensuring all were compliant with ErP Lot 5 legislation 2 years ahead of schedule, resulting in zero scrap costs.
