Bio

I was privileged to meet Mr. Huston Gibson during our time at the Florida State University. Mr. Gibson was a superb instructor who connected with students in a rarely seen way, offering meaningful instruction and facilitating higher level research among us. Mr. Gibson further shared some of his own research interests in readily accessible ways that proved helpful to others by relating methods and concepts that we could understand and use. Beyond research and instruction, Mr. Gibson was always available and willing to advise and contribute to the development of others in a refreshingly selfless fashion. I would be glad to recommend Mr. Gibson both personally and professionally for his exemplary instructional and research skills as well as tireless efforts in lending a hand to others.

As an emerging planning professional, I have realized the influence that Dr. Gibson had on my educational background. The literature and exercises in his "Growth Management" course have been very helpful to the application of my current position. More specifically, the "Sprawl Costs: Economic Impacts of Unchecked Development" text has been a valuable tool as a start to our city's comprehensive plan. The national trend of sprawl is difficult to manage, but Dr. Gibson's expertise taught me several techniques to approach the challenge. His classroom environment was interactive and engaging and he helped confirm my career path to be a planner. I was sad to see him leave Florida State University, but excited for him to move on to his next position as an Assistant Professor at Kansas State University. I highly recommend him as a professor.
