Working closely with a multi-disciplinary research team and reporting to the Country Director in Ethiopia, the Program Officer provides technical support for the Population Council’s portfolio of Family Planning and Reproductive Health research and activities funded by the Evidence Project in Ethiopia. The Program Officer provides focused technical assistance for current Council efforts funded by USAID under the Evidence Projects to expand access to high-quality FP/RH services to reduce unintended pregnancies through the strategic generation, translation and use of new and existing evidence to improve FP/RH programming in Ethiopia and worldwide. Worked on three USAID funded projects: 1. Child Marriage Prevention Program - in charge of the program; coordinated and led region-wide project implementation: conducted Baseline Survey (community diagnostic survey to build evidence base), interviewing more than 56,000 young people, regarding marriage, parity, disability, education and other indicators for targeted interventions with girls to improve girls health and development by delaying age of marriage through keeping girls in school by providing schooling support and Conditional Asset Transfer provision to more than 8,000 younger girls in rural districts of Beneshangul-Gumuz Region. 2. Ending Eclampsia project, Evidence Project - Coordinated the survey in SNNP Region. Hypertensive cases detection, identifying pregnancy-related hypertensive cases, data collection, and analysis 3. AYSRH, a Youth Friendly Service (YFS) survey, Evidence Project - Coordinated, led and successfully concluded a big multi-region YFS survey entitled “Understand Adolescent and Youth SRH Health-Seeking Behaviors in Ethiopia: Implications for YFS Programming” in 5 regions of Ethiopia; provided technical and research guidance and support for the development, implementation, and monitoring of studies and activities, including design, research protocol applications, and training study tools.
