I have worked as a sailing instructor at East Port Yacht Club in Annapolis, MD for the past five summers. During that time I have worked with many great people and made many connections which I believe will help me in my future career plans. My job requires me to maintain certain certifications that keep me qualified to teach sailing. I am First Aid and CPR certified as well as having a US Sailing Level 1 certification. Attaining Level 1 status requires much dedication and effort and forces even the most skilled sailors to utilize all of their knowledge. Although, the certification process is arduous the payoff is amazing as it provides sailing instructors will a 20 million dollar liability insurance policy, something that is very valuable in this particular line of work. This job has required me to learn new skills and asses my current strengths and weaknesses , and I believe that this experience will be of great aid in my future endeavors. -Adept communication skills show through daily agenda planning with coworkers -Teaching students ages 5-16 the fundamentals of sailing emphasizing safety and fun -Produced short (5-10 minute) daily presentations (Chalk Talks) to students on various sailing skills and concepts - Experienced and safety conscience motor boat operator with rudimentary engine repair knowledge -Professional handling of daily stressful situations which often involve bodily harm -Diligent supervision of students involved in daily potentially hazardous activities Show less

I volunteered at Sunrise Senior living during my junior year of high school. I wanted to volunteer at Sunrise because it is part of my local community and I wanted to get the opportunity to make it a better place. I was involved with many activities at the facility and lead events such as bingo and sing along. I enjoyed volunteering at Sunrise and look forward to becoming involved in the community again. -Lead a group of volunteers in the dinning room serving retirees as well as preparing the dinning room for meals (setting tables, filling glasses, folding napkins) and cleaning up after meals -Worked with other volunteers to deliver mail to infirmed retirees -In charge of decorating the facility for the holidays (arranged decorations, hung lights, assembled and decorated Christmas tree) -Responsible for taking facility therapy dogs on daily walks in the park -Lead and ran afternoon Bingo for residents and conducted evening sing alongs during the holidays -Caretaker of the facility's fish tanks Show less
