    • SPUR Internship - Investigating relationships between land-use, infiltration rates and flood risk.
      • Jun 2017 - Sep 2017

Scholarship Projects for Undergraduate Researchers (SPUR). Investigating relationships between land-use, hydraulic processes, infiltration rates, stream runoff and flood risk. I undertook 12 weeks of environmental field and laboratory research. I gained experience working with large data sets for statistical analysis on Microsoft Excel. And routinely used the ArcGIS software alongside LiDAR data to map and model catchment areas. The project investigated the direct relationship between land infiltration rates and stream runoff within a catchment area. By investigating how rates of infiltration of water into a catchment area is dependent on the grounds soil types and land use. Such as crop land, urban and woodlands. My findings were shared with the local council, Southwell’s flood forum, and the Environment Agency. To help predict or prevent future flooding events in Southwell Potwell catchment in Nottinghamshire. And to help adopt suitable flood defence methods.
