      - Advised by Dr. Nancy M. Amato.- Develop a new technique for computing protein folding pathways and motions based on the probabilistic roadmap (PRM) method for robotics motion planning. This newly enhanced technique dramatically reduces the time to study folding pathways by 90%. (Tool: C++, Shell Script, Linux)- Develop a uniform sampling framework for the Probabilistic Roadmap method and apply it to study problems in robotics. This framework provides guarantee of uniform sampling distribution on the surfaces which has remained an open problem, and improves the efficiency to solve problems by 66% in average. (Tool: C++, Linux)- Apply the uniform sampling framework to study ligand binding, particularly ranking the ligand binding affinity. The method is a cost-saving tool (money and time) for pharmaceutical companies to narrow the search for good drug candidates. (Tool: C++, Linux)- Develop a new robotic-inspired method to evaluate and improve the quality of decoy databases by adding and/or removing structures. This new tool aids the development and testing better scoring functions, which can produce a more rigorous decoy database and improve the quality of protein folding simulation by 40%. (Tool: C/C++, Python, Linux)- Maintain the protein folding server in the lab. It is a public server which helps people to simulate and analyze the protein folding pathways by our method. - Advised by Dr. Y. Jane Tseng researching in text mining. - Worked in Bioinformatics and Cheminformatics Labortary, Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering. - Research focused on extracting important information from medical journal articles. We processed text and diagrams in the paper separately and outputted a slide. This tool can advance the way to obtain and link knowledge from journal papers in biomedical fields.
