In 1998, I joined the Loss Prevention Team at Old Navy located at the then-newly constructed flagship store located at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ. In addition to the apprehension of shoplifters & internal investigations, as a member of the Loss Prevention team I oversaw and participated in many "shrink-reducing programs," such as mass sensoring of merchandise and employee awareness. I also introduced the Loss Prevention aspect of the business to classes of new-hires to the sales staff. While at Old Navy, I created a Loss Prevention Training Manual. This manual entailed many of the current aspects, policies and procedures of the profession that are in use today nation-wide. I was even assigned to train new store detectives at then-newly opened stores in Baltimore, MD. In 1999, I left the flagship location for a then-newer but smaller store in North Bergen, NJ, wherein which I was promoted to Loss Prevention Team Leader. At that location, I primarily worked alone in the apprehension of shop lifters and the initiation of internal investigations involving employee dishonesty. Prior to leaving TJ Maxx, I conducted and participated in numerous surveillance and investigations at stores located throughout Essex, Union and Bergen Counties.
