Moldova is a third world country in many ways, especially the hospital system. Situated approximately 300 miles south of Chernobyl, the people of Moldova still suffer the effects of radiation fall-out, especially cancers. The people and the hospitals are undersupplied, re-using products that need sorely to be provided in a sterile state. Our goal is multi-faceted- 1. Go to Moldova, form alliances, and assess nursing needs as well as assist programs to bring Moldovan nurses to the US for a bi-directional supportive approach. 2. Teach nurses and nurse educators regarding empowerment, patient advocacy, infection control, and technically advanced procedures. 3. Provide them with a basis of support during the visits and after return to the US; and return yearly for more assistance. If you are a nurse and would like to be involved- please contact me!
