-Worked as a part of a four person team using integrated pest management strategies to treat Eastern Hemlocks for hemlock wooly adelgid. -Worked in state parks, natural areas, and some private property, in the Cumberland plateau area. -Treated hemlocks with the systemic insecticide imidacloprid, using the soil drench method. -Obtain a Cat 2 and Cat 10 Pesticide Applicators license, to be able to use imidacloprid as a TDF employee. -Assessed the trees crown and percentage of foliage left on the tree to get a better idea of the trees health. If the tree had greater that 30% of its foliage, indicating it had potential for recovery if treated, we would then measure the DBH, determine the number of ounces of chemical needed, remove any flowering trees or shrubs within a specified area, and pour the insecticide directly on the trees feeder roots to increase uptake efficiency. -Worked 10+ hour days in the field hiking off trail over challenging terrain. -Carried 30+ lbs. of personal gear and equipment on a regular basis. -Helped with Biocontrol efforts by releasing the western US, Laricobius nigrinus, and the Japanese, Laricobius osacinsis, beetles in HWA infested areas. -Winter tree species identification knowledge was essential when deciding which trees to treat.
