  I designed and implemented a comprehensive and sustainable on-line writing lab for the College of Health Sciences, which reflected the college’s mission to prepare students for health care careers in a global workforce market by utilizing new technology and expanding research methods in the training of undergraduate and graduate students earning bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees in seven fields of study. As a communications consultant, I performed the following tasks: analyzed the needs of target audiences and evaluated messaging systems; collected and assessed data from various stakeholders to develop program materials appropriate for conveying the college’s message to diverse audiences within the college and in the outside community; outlined program goals and developed measurable objectives to evaluate the effectiveness of the program’s strategies; designed, incorporated, and evaluated various forms of media to achieve program’s objectives.

  I developed an advanced research course for non-English majors, which provided individualized course plans for each student. Over the course of the semester, students practiced research methods and formatting guidelines appropriate to their field of study to write a proposal, complete a research project, and write a paper that discussed the findings of their research. In addition, each student revised their projects to meet submission guidelines for two academic journals and submitted their work.

  I managed the publication of a magazine that promoted university relations by providing a comprehensive report of the university system’s accomplishments and contributions to the community during the ten-year tenure of ASU’s retiring president. The publication illustrated how each office, college, and department in the university contributed to ASU’s mission by summarizing each group’s contributions to academics, research, and social service and highlighting individual achievements of administration, faculty, staff, and students within each sector of the university system. I completed the following tasks to ensure that all deadlines were successfully met: developed time-lines for the entire project and for individual team members; conducted research for content and wrote copy; developed communication materials to request information and conducted interviews for features; contracted and supervised writers; coordinated photo shoots for features and collaborated with the university photographer to research past photographs; worked with the university’s graphic designer to develop the layout for the publication; conducted content editing, proofreading, and copy editing throughout each stage of the publishing process.
