My primary responsibility here is to carry out planned and reactive maintenance and repair of best in class renewable technologies such as air source heat pump rigs. I loved the fact that I was singled out to complete the installation and facilitate the smooth operation of a thermal battery. This system converts high pressure steam energy efficiently into electricity and is quite possibly the first installation of its type in the UK. When I joined, I made a significant contribution with implementing works at the C35 compound (e.g. compliance testing using TAS chamber), complying in full with all relevant Health and Safety & COSHH requirements. I'm proud of the fact that I was able to successfully develop a bespoke testing rig for PCM testing. I was subsequently responsible for monitoring, diagnosing and identifying problems then implementing practical and affordable solutions. Probably my biggest contribution at the Active Building Centre was contributing to the installation and running of cutting edge renewable technologies including Sunamp Thermino Thermal Storage, Photo Voltaic Thermal, Phase Change Materials, etc. I've been able to carry out Plant room maintenance and operation for demonstrator homes and district heating networks, assisting with operation & maintenance of key equipment such as the TAS chamber, forklift, etc. Finally, I've carried out “Hot works operations” relating to brazing, soldering and connection of both low pressure and high pressure pipe works on completed test rigs within tight deadlines.
