  The Associate Director of External Communications is responsible for guiding the development of strategic external communications programs of Northern Virginia Community College. In this role, I ensure external messaging is consistent and supports implementation of the college's strategic communications plan. I manage media relations, working closely with the Director of Communications and NOVA's senior leadership to maintain the college's brand.I serve as a media strategist and one of the college's spokespersons. I further drive writing and pitching to media, and work with the overall Communications team on editorial story planning in which supports the college's day to day messaging. I also serve as the college's point of contact for visual/ video services and photography. Here, we craft stories and narratives that promote the college in external media. Hundreds of thousands of views combined, we are proud of our students, faculty and staff members that have captivated the attention the wider-community, the region and the nation. I check and update all news releases of new prospects and current partner portfolios -- while also reviewing any incoming grants to make sure they meet compliance measures. Fund development and fundraising to marry funds to programs encompasses gauging the donor lifecycle and corporate grant lifecycle timelines. I review this type of reporting with the Senior Director of Development. In this process, I monitor affiliate and national funding campaign strategies in making sure Volunteers of America with it's 33 affiliates with their various programs have completed all steps necessary with regards to funding. I work closely with affiliate staff members in respective financial development roles to ensure their success in research, fund development, grants management and programming. I attend events for public relation purposes such as the Combined Federal Campaign events, AFP conferences, as well as Volunteers of America's annual conferences.
