I had the pleasure of working directly with Hachem for nearly 2 years delivering the National Geographic Ultimate Explorer within the Salhia Assima Mall, Kuwait. Over this time I found Hachem to be a very competent design and project manager. I have known Hachem Mahfoud for over 7 years working together on one of the world’s largest mixed use urban development named The City/ Assima which includes an executive hotel, landmark tower, for Salhia Real Estate at the heart of Kuwait city. Hachem began in the retail and business development department of Salhia assisting in procuring and negotiating the many tenant leases, here it became clear he understood the details and spirit of the scheme. Through the process Hachem initiated revisions required by incoming tenants while making in each iteration improving the retail scheme; always maintaining the excitement of the design. Hachem has an MBA in design strategy and a BA in Architecture. Here his background in architectural design and understanding of contemporary retail having lived and studied in California brought forward new ideas and solutions that assisted in securing key tenants at The City/ Assima. Knowing so much of the specifics of this challenging 7 storey retail design, the structures and design strategy Hachem became invaluable to the success of the process, as he was uniquely well suited to manage the project when the opportunity arose. His commitment to the quality of the design was extraordinary, in his new role we again maintained good contact through the process of procurement, mock-ups and construction on many aspects of the designs and redesign of the project. His direct efforts and interventions, cultural insights, and ability to identify, in advance, those key design concerns; while initiating a process of resolving these concerns creatively in an open collegial forum with the client, contractor and architect and designers. This open collegial group approach allowed challenges to be identified, and the process to move forwards apace, while always maintaining momentum through the process.
