Through my column in The Financial Post, a weekly radio show on NewsTalk 1010 in Toronto, and being interviewed regularly by the news media across Canada, I am a well-known and widely-quoted authority on employment law. At the same time, my profile is ranked by the Martindale-Hubbell directory as the second most-viewed lawyer in Canada and in the top .001% in the world. I practice throughout Toronto, the GTA and Canada. Why do clients from sea-to-sea-to-sea call me? It’s because while any lawyer can settle a case for some amount of money, my settlements are noteworthy as a result of my effective and tireless representation. Moreover, I conduct my own trials, which is not the case for all employment lawyers. As a result, I am the labour and employment counsel for many of Canada’s largest corporations and act as chief spokesperson for numerous collective bargaining negotiations in a variety of industries. I lobby on labour legislation at the federal and provincial level for several clients. I have appeared as counsel at all levels of courts across Canada including the Supreme Court of Canada. I’ve been lead counsel in thousands of employment law cases, each year acting in over 50 trials, appeals and other hearings. I chair countless workplace law conferences regularly, including for the Law Society of Upper Canada. Besides practicing law, I enjoy writing about it and am the author of Canada’s leading dismissal text, The Law of Dismissal in Canada. I’ve written five other books and am Editor-In-Chief of The Dismissal and Employment Law Digest, that covers every notable dismissal and employment law case across Canada. The book and its law report are cited extensively in decisions across Canada. I am proud to have been awarded the Governor General’s Medal for Service to Canada in 1992. If you are coping with an employment or labour law issue, we should connect and talk about it. Show less
