In this role, I configure and test servers, switches, endpoints, and IoT devices before they are shipped to customers. Often I am installing operating systems, configuring RAID controllers, and upgrading embedded system firmware. This role gave me the opportunity to develop the skills to quickly and effectively use a computer with keyboard shortcuts utilize the Windows or Linux CLI. I learned the most about logistics, shipping practices, and enterprise resource planning. After the layoff, I attempted to start my own business as an MSP; however, my venture was not successful. During this time, I managed customers' web presence for online stores and personal websites. I utilized 3rd party hosts and public cloud infrastructure on Azure using a LAMP stack with Wordpress. During this venture, I learned the most about email hosting, DKIM, DNS-Sec, DMARC, TLS implementation, Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. In this role, I responded to helpdesk tickets, troubleshooted Windows servers and endpoints, and reviewed SIEM logs and responded to any correlation alarms. Additionally, I would review CVE reports and use endpoint management software and SysInternals to ensure systems remained up-to-date and hardened against potential cyber attacks. Before the pandemic, the organization was preparing to transition to CMMC compliance, and I was involved in determining gaps in system configurations and compliance standards. One of the biggest challenges was determining compensating controls for critical systems. I learned the most about Windows Server configurations, Citrix, log management, and enterprise networking/wireless solutions. Show less

In this role, I provided support to a system testing production line in a logistics center. This production environment required elaborate coaxial communications infrastructure, and my role was to ensure this infrastructure was within specification. Often this would involve readings of infrastructure utilizing a spectrometer, then adjusting or replacing hardware as needed. I learned the most about radio frequencies and the various technologies that utilize coaxial cable. In this role, I provided support to a system testing production line in a logistics center. In this role, I provided technical support to elderly residents and was point-of-contact support for corporate IT for hardware issues. Additionally, I maintained access controls and developed processes for operating a new IP-based video broadcast system for the facility's auditorium. Occasionally a resident may have been involved with a personal cyber security incident. My coworkers and I would respond by assisting with their technical needs, and coordinate with family and security to implement defensive measures. I learned the most about VoIP and POTS telephony, as well as radio communications over air and coaxial cable, and IP-based CCTV and NVR systems. Show less
