I took part in a 4 day work experience at St James’ Place, I heard from many employees in the finance and technology divisions of the company as well as their financial advice partners. What I did: -Gained an insight into how a company gives good financial advice to their clients. -Investigated how different funds work and how many partner firms manage funds in their specialty area. -Saw a day in the life of a St James’ Place Partner and how they advise clients. -Gained knowledge in how the company has become a FTSE 100 company and what this means for them. -Investigated the fee structure for clients investments and why people choose them over others. -Learnt why cyber security is so important and how the company remains secure for their clients. -Saw how the technology used for financial advice allows clients to easily see where and how money is invested and the performance of their money. -Learnt how new technology is implemented in the finance sector and how it helps clients.

This was a 3 day virtual work experience where we built our skills and knowledge to better know about jobs and the opportunities out there, and to know what skills are needed at certain jobs. We got talks from many major companies and learnt about the many opportunities that they offer, and how apprenticeships and university degrees weigh up against each other. What I did: -Learnt about the opportunities available to me and the different banks that offer them, I heard from a variety of people from different companies including accounting firms, investment banks, and consumer banks -Created a log to show the information that I learnt on the event, and gained a certificate for the completion of the course. -Learnt about how to make connections within the business world and the financial sector in particular making many connections throughout the event.

I attended a 1 day young investment bankers programme to gain an insight into the world of investment banking, throughout the day I heard from various speakers and got to ask many questions. We had a go at a trading game, and learnt about the many different paths that you can follow in an investment bank. What I did: -Gained an insight into the different parts of an investment bank and the opportunities available to me. -Questioned professionals from different areas of the banking sector and the different skills and certifications needed to achieve each career. -Met with many professionals throughout the day including those that worked in front-office investment banking, wealth management and personal banking. -Learned about trading through an interactive trading game and learnt about the signals that you can see in a market.
