As part of my program's field placement, I worked in a special education classroom with children having special needs (learning difficulties, ADHD) and autism. Observed many verbal operants and a number of adaptive and maladaptive behaviors in natural school settings, participated in direct behavioral modification strategies, engaged with students and helped them in their academic and co-curricular activities. Clinical Psychology Intern

Jun 2020 - Jun 2020
Clinical psychology internship by The Department of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences, Fortis Healthcare and Sukoon Health, New Delhi; under Dr. Samir Parikh, Director, Fortis Mental Healthcare Program. As a part of this program, I have completed a 50-hour internship in clinical psychology, which included online classes, application-based assignments, reading and critical analysis of relevant research papers, and an Experiential Project. I joined this internship after pandemic hit (when everyone was sitting at home in lockdown) as I wanted to do something productive at that uncertain time in my life. This internship proved to be a really fruitful for me because I gained a lot of practical knowledge about conducting research, read tons of research papers and wrote many critical analysis as assignments for this internship program. I explored my potential of writing good content while I was enrolled in this program as it was the first time I had academic freedom to pen down my views in the form of review papers. I also learnt new concepts which were part of psychotherapies but were never included in our course content as part of my baccalaureate program. The most fun part of this internship were the practical based assignments which I used to get after attending online lectures. Additionally, I made an experiential project on my story of coping with lockdown. I learned a lot of new and interesting skills as part of this internship which I see myself applying in future as a mental health professional. Show less

Clinical Psychology Intern

Jul 2019 - Jul 2019
Clinical psychology internship at Institute of Mental Health and Life Skills Promotion at Moolchand Medcity, New Delhi; under Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, Sr. Consultant Psychiatrist. As an intern at Moolchand hospital, my responsibilities included Case history taking, observing special education sessions of ADHD, LD, Autism, Psychological Testing, Speech therapies and Occupational therapy sessions; and other aspects including orientation of various case studies and their management. This internship was my first exposure with real life case studies of people having mental health concerns. I used to discuss cases, their prognosis, differential diagnosis and other aspects with counseling psychologists there. I observed a lot of sessions and had an opportunity to take case histories of a clients. In the initial days of internship, I found it quite difficult to cope with varied life experiences of clients and felt a sense of distress as I used to get emotionally disturbed after seeing people suffer. Later, I discussed this concern with my mentors and learned how to deal with all this and how to process my thoughts. I believe this experience will serve for my betterment in future when I'll get into this field of work. Show less
