Team Podcast produces shows for over 100 different content creators. On my end, I listen to raw audio and synthesize new information into what we call "show notes." These notes are not a summary, but rather a marketing device. You can't Google search for audio, so I make sure to include key search terms and relevant information from the show to ensure it is visible to its target audience. I am also acting as a bit of a sleuth! I research the guests for bios and background information, track down links mentioned in the episode, and fact-check key information they might have mentioned. Since beginning my work with Team Podcast, I have grown in my flexibility, adaptability, persistence, and creativity. I am constantly challenged outside of my comfort zone, but in the end, I always learn something valuable! Show less

High School Writing Center Intern
-
Jan 2015 - 2015
This internship is the service and field work component of my Independent Study through UNC's Department of English and Comparative Literature. There is a requirement of 9 hrs minimum/week of being in the schools or working with the CoachWrite tutoring program. CoachWrite is a small cohort of volunteer writing coaches that are trained to work with age groups K-12. My particular role as an intern is to anchor and run the East Chapel Hill Writing Center, provide ongoing feedback to my director about teacher assignments and tutor performance, and frequently contribute to ongoing tutor training. This internship has allowed me the unique opportunity of helping to plan and re-launch the writing center at East Chapel Hill. The result is access to the type of planning, strategy, and promotion a Writing Center needs in a public school environment. I have also adapted several of the UNC Writing Center handouts into an accessible format for high school students, conducted dozens of one-on-one conferences in the high schools, and will complete a research intense review of my experiences for class credit and (hopefully) publication. Writing Coach
-
Aug 2014 - 2015
As a Peer Tutor, I was able to meet one-on-one with students at UNC and facilitate one hour conferences about assignments. After a semester of training, I am now able to use a variety of writing strategies, coach nearly any subject, and help investigate where a writer might be encountering problems or struggles. Instead of editing or proofreading, I am able to sit and have a discussion with a student about writing itself. I also have the opportunity to lead a weekly staff meeting, contribute to a staff-wide discussion on tutoring and writing in general, and also help to mentor and train my co-workers Show less

At CSI, I had the opportunity to work with many departments, from shelving fabric in the Color Library, to organizing inventory as it came in from the lab. I learned to create reflectance data from a spectrophotometer and observe how a global company functioned. Everything from shipping and cutting fabric to organizing a room full of fabric!
