Performed weekly sampling in the Mystic River watershed for cyanobacteria to determine blue-green algae counts (or HABs, Harmful Algal Blooms). Tested samples in the lab to determine phycocyanin levels, and to ultimately alert the MA Department of Public Health if levels were over state limits. Also took part in monitoring American Eel counts that passed through the Mystic Lakes Dam, and aided in the Water Chestnut Removal Project, which aims to eradicate the invasive water chestnut plant species that clogs the Mystic River watershed and its recreational areas.
