During my 6-months of logistic assistant experience at the Indian Ocean Commission in 2013, I have worked directly under Herland for three back-to-back regional conferences and the launching and first regional meeting of SYAH (a regional youth-led organisation advancing sustainable development among African and Asian Small Islands Developing States). It was my first working experience (following few internships I did during university), and I have learnt a lot from him - his diplomatic and interpersonal skills and the way he organized and structured his work (something I lacked back then). More than that, the way he handles pressure has been a learning journey in itself for me.
