I got the opportunity to work with Mr. Herbert Ludwig Jaeger, former Investment Director of Norfund, Director and Audit Committee member of Mutual Trust Bank Ltd. (MTB), during the past couple of years. We have closely worked together to complete the equity investment of Norfund in MTB, which is the highest ever foreign direct equity investment in terms of quantity (i.e., number of shares), amount and percentage, by a multilateral institution in a Bangladeshi Bank. During this period, I learnt many things from him, which includes, how to meet the requirement at the time of conducting due diligence by the multilateral institutions, negotiate with multilateral institutions at the time of on-boarding a foreign direct equity investment as well as loans, keep patience and not to lose hope during difficult times, and many more issues. He is perfectly a gentleman having in-depth knowledge, expertise and experience, in every arena of business, especially in finance, management, human resources, banking and so on. He is very calm and steadfast, while working as a professional. He exerts hundred percent efforts and professionalism on behalf of his employer, during negotiation, and opens certain scopes and rooms for the counterpart, which is logical and beneficial to narrow the gap between two parties, on the way of establishing a very good and long term business relationship and ties. This is the right technical know-how, which is very much requires and needs to be possessed for successfully completing any assignment, indeed. On the other hand, he has a very good soul and affection towards his colleagues, which he always conceals.
