The work performed is extremely diverse and utilizes a multitude of instruments and analytical chemistry techniques and principles with the primary purpose of analyzing bodily fluids for the presence and concentration of alcohol and other drugs. This entails sample preparation and analysis, writing and submission of reports, and frequent instrument maintenance. For the most part I analyze human blood and urine. Sample preparation ranges from quick liquid extractions to the more arduous solid-phase extractions. I utilize a whole slew of chemical reagents and analytical techniques to perform a variety of drug extractions and derivatizations. Depending on the analysis needed I have a variety of instruments at my disposal, all of which I am well acquainted with. I frequently utilize both gas and liquid chromatography paired with immunoassay techniques. Please contact if you'd like more detailed information on my day to day activities as I'd be happy to go into more scientific detail!

I completed the Illinois State Police statewide training program for Forensic Toxicologists in Springfield, IL at their training facility/laboratory. This training program entailed passing written, oral, and practical examinations in order to demonstrate my knowledge of the theory and instrumentation behind all of our laboratory procedures and analytical techniques. The training program was followed by six months of supervised casework. I completed the entire program in March 2016.
