This role involves developing low-level C code for a robotic platform, writing unit tests with the ceedling framework and writing high-level integration tests using the behave framework in Python, along with further developing our Python test infrastructure. As part of this work I also set up and maintain the automated CI testing and code release using Bamboo and this behave test framework.

As a test engineer, I developed a test method used to measure the purification performance of an in-development project, requiring use of aerosol particle counters, along with developing results templates in Excel/VBA and results parsers in Python.

I spent a year completing an industrial placement at National Instruments between my 2nd and 3rd years of study.During this year I gained experience over a wide range of topics as an Application Engineer, mainly focusing on NI products but also including more general engineering concepts. Additionally, this gave me a lot of experience in a customer facing role. Interns were encouraged to focus on a project of our choosing, and I decided to continue working with the Manchester Robot Orchestra by building a robotic keyboard player as can be seen in the linked video.

Summer Placement

I spent a summer working with the robot orchestra, designing my own robot and helping the orchestra perform at several events throughout the summer and afterwards. This included working with children and teachers to improve their additions to the orchestra, travelling to the BBC's Maida Vale studio's to record a documentary on the orchestra and attending the European City of Science to perform at it's opening in the Manchester Central convention complex.
