Henrik comes from an academic background. He is a renowned researcher in applied machine learning and optimization. He has deep knowledge in statistics, machine learning, and optimization. He nurtures a continuous learning and critical thinking culture in our team. Through organizing seminars, encouraging team members to host seminars and to follow the tech trend, hosting workshops, etc., he leads the team to stay on the frontier of the applied machine learning research. The data science team at C3 is a 5 person team when I joined. It is now a team of ~40 people located internationally across the globe. I see first hand how Henrik leaded the team to grow from 5 to 40 in 2 years, and at the same time builded and maintained the great team culture of collaboration, empowerment and nurturing, strengthened the collaboration within and among teams, and contributed greatly to the company’s and our customers’ success. During my tenure at C3, Henrik gives me great support. He is my direct manager, but more importantly, he is always the first person that I want to talk to if I have any question or doubt about anything, the project, the company, myself, the team, etc. Because, every time after a conversation with him, my questions answered (directly or indirectly), my doubts cleared, I feel very motivated and empowered to do and achieve more! I had great experience and great success in my time at c3, growed from a junior data scientist to a team manager. None of these would be possible without his leadership, his support, inspirations, and empowerment! Henrik is the kind of leader who I am willing to always follow!

I was a graduate student at UC Berkeley while Henrik was doing postdoctoral research there. We collaborated on a few research projects, and he mentored me and took me under his wing during the first few years of my PhD. As a researcher, Henrik has a strong background in statistics, machine learning, and system identification. He's both capable at finding new, impactful directions of research, and applying his knowledge to find solutions both in theory and in practice. (His research publications, as well as his work at C3, attest to both aspects!) Put another way, he has a strong theoretical foundation of knowledge, but has never lost sight of the engineering problem at hand. As a mentor, Henrik is patient and empathetic. He recognizes the needs of those around him and provides an understanding mentorship that promotes student growth. He also works actively to promote community in the workplaces I have seen him in. Overall, Henrik is an invaluable colleague and collaborator to have, and a strong addition to any community.
