The UN Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY) is an annual event under the banner of YOUNGO – The Official Youth Constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). COY, the largest and longest running youth event to date, takes place right before, and on the sideline of, the annual UN Climate Change Conference, also known as Conference of the Parties (COP). Where COY serves as a space for capacity building and policy training, in order to prepare young people for their participation at COP, empower them, and formally bring their voices to the UNFCCC processes to shape the intergovernmental climate change policies. Local COY (LCOY) is a country-level COY that has been held several years before. Green Economy Youth Organization (GEYO) has received approval as host of LCOY Indonesia 2023 from LCOY Working Group of YOUNGO. Results from LCOY 2023 will be delivered at COY18 before COP28 in Dubai. To create a climate-resilient Indonesia, youth must outline collaborative solutions for 3 interrelated problems: Sustainable Agriculture, Sustainable Waste Management, and Preventing the Loss of Biodiversity. For example, Sustainable Agriculture can protect biodiversity by minimizing the use of chemical pesticides and Sustainable Waste Management can protect marine biota from consuming waste. Indonesian youth from various provinces as the dominant age group can realize collective efforts to meet the net zero emission target in 2050-2060 by solving the three issues. Collective efforts can be realized by initiating youth as key actors in encouraging collaboration between international organizations and pentahelix: government, academics, business people, media and community.
