Hendrik was one of the few clients who was open to new ideas and suggestions and it was a pleasure to have dialogue with him resolving issues and designing systems. I worked for him for two years full time and a few more ad-hoc, all of which was an altogether pleasant and fulfilling work experience. Hendrik has always had a desire to achieve a deep understanding in all aspects of a project, from finance and logistics to building hardware, electronics and computer software development. I've always felt like I was working with him and not for him; which went a long way to motivate me to work at a higher creative level. Hendrik gets two thumbs up from me as a leader and businessman.

The laboratory operated in support of other entities - orriginally under the BKS and later under the VTR banner. Many local and international patents were registered in my own and company name.Acknowledged leader in innovative Physical Security SolutionsRan a test site testing most security technologies available worldwide were tested for incorporating in security installations. Different installation environments and deployments were tested for effectiveness as detectors, analysis, false and nuisance alarms as well as complexity and the influence on MTTR of spares and expertise availability and the MTBF of different environments. Many patents were registered from the knowledge gleaned in these tests.Recognised leader in the design and innovation of perimeter system (Many patents held - Tunnel structures and security screen - very cost effective)Supervised in house training

    • General Manager
      • Mar 1979 - Feb 1981

Tasked to transformed the company operation from the research phase to full production which was achieved in less than a year.As General Manager the design, development and manufacture as well as the construction and the later installation of new generation Ore Sorters within budget was my direct responsibility.Financial control and reporting.Used laser scanning and scintillator detection to sort and beneficiate ores using high pressure columnated air. Much of it the logic was by hard wired logic (forming parallel computers) and supported by complex conveyor and screening systems running from the mine to the sorters with two down streams to dumps and extraction plants. The company decided to relocate its operations to Canada and I was requested to re-establish the factory there. Family considerations made me decide to decline and accept an offer for a senior alternate position with new challenges.
