  Working with older members of the local community, I help them understand and use all sorts of IT so they can enjoy the benefits of the internet and smart technologies to live well in retirement. Sharing my knowledge of hardware, software, phone, broadband and wi-fi coupled with a sound understanding of on-line threats and countermeasures available, I build their confidence to use their smart phones, tablets, laptops and computers to make the most of everything the internet offers to help them keep in touch with family and friends, shop on line and pursue their hobbies and interests. Working with the leaders of all the clubs across the area, I have designed, developed and delivered an induction package for new volunteers focusing on the challenges older users face when stepping inside one of our clubs for the first time. I am now looking at further traiing to build the skills and confidence of the volunteers. Show less

  Design, management and delivery of Europe-wide events, conferences and training programmesSuccessfully delivered the 2017 Academy - the premier learning event for adult leaders in European Guiding and Scouting. I was responsible for addressing all elements of content, logistics, evaluation and planning with a team drawn from across Europe. I was the lead for the learning content and supporting the team of international facilitators. Together we brought innovation, challenge, inspiration and learning to over 160 participants from 50 different Scouting and Guiding Organisations. I was part of a team that planned, designed and developed a 4 day conference and training event on External Relations in October 2015. Delivered to a multi-national audience of mainly young adults from across Europe, we explored the roles of National Youth Organisations, their relationships with European institutions, the way to find, develop and manage external partners ranging from businesses to media and charities. We looked at building partnership linking into national strategies, looking at the risks and benefits and also how to initiate contacts successfully. Using a range of techniques including active learning, role play, reflection, small group work, discussions and individual exploration, we took participants on a tailored journey to assist them within their own national or local organisations.   Looking at nnovative ways to Grow Guiding capacity by matching demand (waiting lists) with available resources (students). Helped a team of 18-22 year old students to develop and deliver a holiday programme for 7 years olds to give them a full term's worth of Brownie experiences in a week. Worked with girls and students afterwards to create a virtual Brown Owl support network to enable girls to continue to make progress as Brownies until they could join local units. Promoting and assisting with a nationwide roll-out of similar pilots. I manage our local Growing Guiding coordinator inspiring, supporting and challenging her to get people considering new ways of creating space for girls and opportunities for leaders to deliver high quality Guiding. In 3 years, growth has been on a steady upwards trajectory in Gloucestershire Led a session at the World Growing Guiding Roundtable in November 2015 to challenge even wider thinking on the opportunities to look in new ways at how to deliver high quality Guiding.
