Working with Helen was an amazing experience. She is smart, knowledgeable, dedicated, organized, compassionate and helpful person. I have worked together with Helen on several projects while we were course mates at University of Tartu and I was inspired by her critial thinking and tenacity to seeing things through. We also volunteered together in Tartu University Hospital Children's Foundation and worked together at University of Tartu Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology. She has great communication skills, works very well individually and is also a team player. Helen was one of the lead organizers for charity event "Üleannetus". She managed a team of volunteers, communicated with sponsors and with the venue owner. Thanks to her, the event was very successful. Helen is also good at public speaking and is one of the most courageous people I know. A fun fact about her - she studies and speaks a bit of Korean language. I highly recommend Helen!

I worked on different research projects in the laboratory of Evolutionary Biology for 12 years during my bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies. I specialised in population genetics focusing on the phylogeny/phylogeography of human Y-chromosomal haplogroups. I analysed data using different software packages (BEAST package, GeneMapper, ChromasPro, Surfer etc.) and did laboratory work (PCR, Sanger sequencing, Y-STR Powerplex etc.). I took part in writing several scientific manuscripts.

GenDi is a dictionary of genetics based on Prof. Ain Heinaru's "Genetics" ("Geneetika") textbook published in 2012. GenDi contains genetic terminology and the explanations of the terms both in English and Estonian. My main task on this project was to translate the the terms along with their explanations to English. I extracted DNA from different biological materials obtained from patients and carried out DNA amplyfication (PCR) for pathogene DNA. I worked in the hospital laboratory during the summer between my studies to gain more knowledge and experience on lab work.
