Academic Tutor
-
Nov 2013 - Aug 2019
I am an academic tutor of students from ages 3-20 in the subjects of Math, Reading/Language Arts, and Japanese. While encouraging students to use their own critical thinking skills to solve problems, I am available to help and teach them when needing assistance. A typical workday entails correcting multiple students' (about 50 students per day or 15 students per hour) classwork and homework while tutoring them as needed. I also work at the reception desk where student check-in upon arrival and check-out upon completion of work for the day. I set-up the student's homework, taking into consideration their skill level and the time it takes until completion of work. I communicate with parents regarding their child's progress, explaining any challenges their child is facing and tips on how to process and overcome the challenges. Show less

The Okinawa Association of America is a non-profit cultural organization whose mission statement is to preserve and promote the Okinawan culture in Southern California. My role is to aid with ongoing projects within the office. Some ongoing projects are, but not limited to, keeping an inventory of the organization's merchandise, organizing 110 years worth of archives and publications relating to the organization, and formatting formal letters to send out to the membership. The OAA also holds ongoing small events and classes for our members such as a weekly computer class for our senior members and a monthly potluck for new members. I am also part of the planning and execution of these smaller events, sharpening my customer service and management skills. Show less
