During my time at The Express, I covered everything from local government to emergency services, local sport to federal politics. I maintained positive working relationships with members of the community from all works of life to write news that mattered to them. Aside from conducting interviews and writing articles, I regularly contributed to the newspaper’s social media accounts, crafting posts and monitoring interactions and metrics. I also played a key role in the curation and organisation of content on The Express website and regularly sub-edited the work of others. I have some experience using Adobe InDesign.

During my time at IJM, I was involved in putting together two annual review magazines. While working on these magazines, I was responsible for: administration tasks and timeline delivery; collaborating with other IJM field offices in India to compile stories; writing a wide variety of copy, from in-depth articles examining trends in human trafficking in India to profiles of survivors; gathering and compiling statistics; editing content submitted by other field offices to match the editorial style; and working with a graphic designer to figure out the best way to visually communicate our key messages. Additionally, I regularly wrote articles for IJM India’s website, the blog of a partner organisation and monthly newsletters in a brochure format. I was also tasked with developing training content for staff on the topic of external communications. My task was to adapt the storytelling and communications policies into a format that was easily digestible and engaging for staff with already-hectic schedules. Topics within this training content included framing the issue of bonded labour and how to engage with the media. Furthermore, I worked with my Field Office Director to develop presentations and speeches to be delivered both internally and externally.
