  The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Project is currently under construction on the Abay River in the Benishangul Gumuz Regional State about 750 km from Addis Ababa. It is the largest hydropower project in Africa and among the ten largest in the world. The project includes two powerhouses with a total installed capacity of 6,000 MW and 15,759 GWh of annual energy generation. It is the largest hydropower project in Africa and among the ten largest in the world. The project includes two powerhouses with a total installed capacity of 6,000 MW and 15,759 GWh of annual energy generation. It presents technical and managerial challenges and complexity also due to its exceptional size. I have been working as Design Coordinator on GERPD, the project consists of a 160m high RCC dam, a 50m high rock fill saddle dam, two powerhouses totaling 6,000 MW of installed power and three spillways totaling a capacity of 19,350 m3/s. I focused my activities on: • Coordinating the design review for the Civil Works and Hydraulic Steel Structure • Technical assistance to the Employer in the negotiation of the EPC contracts • Coordinating the reallocation of the Hydraulic Steel Structure contracts • Tender document review • Revision of Technical Specification for Hydraulic Steel Structure • Technical Assessment of the works performed by the former contractor • Design Review of Civil Structure
