The Traumatic Brain Injury Program provides the highest quality assistance to veterans that have received a brain injury in every aspect of their life. The majority of brain injuries sustained by our military go un/under noticed, un/under diagnosed and/or not treated. Research supports that a variety of symptoms can often result from even a mild brain injury. These symptoms when left unrecognized/treated can lead to a decrease in functional independence and places the veteran at a higher risk for issues such as suicide, intimate partner and domestic violence, substance abuse and coming into adverse contact with the justice system. As the TBI Program Specialist, I am relied upon to empower and offer options to those veterans who have survived a brain injury. As a subject matter expert, I serve as a liaison to the general public and community i.e. criminal justice system, tribes, social service agencies and higher education. Your ability to champion the program and build collaborative partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders will be critical in expanding the scope and reach of the agency in support of veterans suffering from and living with TBI symptoms.
