Bio
Britt Lunsford MPS, SHRM-SCP
Heather was one of the first and most impactful mentors in my professional career. I reported to her, at first indirectly, and later directly, in my role at Family Video. She always demonstrated tact and caring when dealing with others and taught me management skills that I directly attribute to my success as a person and as a professional today. One of the most important lessons I learned from Heather is the importance of letting people learn from their mistakes. She always provided counsel and a listening ear but she also allowed her managers to make their own decisions (within reason), and she treated them as coaching moments. I recall one time in particular, when I had made a particularly bad hiring decision. She warned me about the decision that I was making before I did it, but allowed it to be my choice. When it didn't end well, instead of saying "I told you so" she sat me down and allowed me to talk about the situation fully - expressing why I had made the decision I had initially and what I learned from my mistake. I will never forget that, and I have never replicated that mistake again.
