    • Database Analyst / Environmental Scientist
      • Jun 1989 - Jul 2008

As a Database Analyst I worked with the Agency’s Laboratory staff and management to get their Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) running and to train the laboratory staff in its use. I trained users one on one and in groups in the use of the LIMS as well as provided user documentation for their reference. I worked with the chemists and scientists to make sure the LIMS stored their data correctly, maintained accurate records of the analytical methods used and generated reports correctly. I also provided end user support for PCs, Microsoft Office Suite applications, and minor support for Lotus Notes. As an Environmental Scientist I worked with an EPA program to store and retrieve data for determining the water quality standards of various bodies of surface water within the state. This position transitioned into a database analyst position where I spent more time working with programmers and GIS specialists to develop a more robust means of performing data analysis. As an Environmental Scientist I also worked to ensure that Underground Storage Tank facilities were adequately equipped with leak detection devices to ensure the protection of ground and surface waters of the state. I performed site inspections, took soil and water samples, and managed the cleanup activities at contaminated sites in a specific region of Mississippi. Show less
