While living in South Korea, I navigated cross-cultural barriers to deliver ESL instruction to elementary and middle school students. My day to day involved classroom preparation such as: creating worksheets, PPTs, hand-made puzzles, games, and crafts. My primary focus was on encouraging students to speak English confidently, and develop better listening skills. My biggest projects were creating the Hampyeong Foreign Language Center workbooks. These workbooks had special dialogues and activities used by the students for the whole school year. Using Google Drive I created dialogues, edited activity pages, and formatted the pictures to be used. We then sent off the work I had accomplished to be published and returned for additional editing. Working at the Hampyeong Foreign Language Center, I was responsible for decorating and organizing my teaching corner. Assisting the other teachers with prep for classes, keeping the teaching space clean, and supervising students. I organized our summer and winter English camps. Camps lasted for two weeks, with two separate groups of students. Curriculum involved activities based around a specific theme. Team-based games and competitions helped encourage speaking English in a more relaxed atmosphere. I also taught after-school classes for fourth grade. These were much smaller classes and involved basic pronunciation practice, vocabulary building, simple reading and writing exercises. Show less
