  I proactively sought the internship after encountering some Landcare publications on various methods of carbon sequestration from Landcare Research authors. I spent my time writing a comprehensive literature review on my chosen topic; ‘The Potential for Carbon Sequestration in New Zealand’. I considered all known methods of carbon sequestration, what their risks and feasibility might be and how they might be achieved through simple land use changes within New Zealand. My research highlighted to me that there is a clear disconnect between the science, through which we have the technology to reduce our emissions, and also the policy, which enables us to achieve our targets. We need professionals with an understanding of the science and legislation who are able to clearly communicate methods that will help us achieve our emissions reductions targets.
