  A main focus of my role is ensuring compliance with APS recruitment legislation and best practice. To this end, staff are encouraged to contact us before they start a recruitment process. I consult regularly with internal recruiters on where they can advertise their vacancy, and what language they should use in the gazette ad and duty statement to attract a strong field of candidates. I advise them on different ways they can utilise the online application, and different methods of interviewing to weed out potentially unsuitable candidates for their role and identify the best person for the job. Another advantage of early consultation is that the recruiter then has a personal contact in the recruitment team to discuss the progress of their recruitment or to get guideance on any issues that arise during their process.
